Jade Goody

On 22 March 2009, British reality star, Jade Goody, passed away after a brief battle with cervical cancer. Jade was the first proper reality TV star in the UK, turning her 3 month appearance on Big Brother into a very successful and lucrative media career. After Big Brother, Jade was rarely not in the newspaper or our screens and became a veritable fixture in our lives.
Jade was quite a polarising figure, people either loved her or hated her, with very few people falling between those two extremes. Always controversial, Jade remained true to herself throughout her relatively short career in the public eye.
Since Jade’s death, media interest in her has not waned and stories about her and her surviving family members continue to appear in the press. One film maker, S. Henri of the production company, SLAP-TV, felt so inspired by her story, that he wrote, produced and directed a film which was a fictionalised imagining of what Jade’s final television interview might have been like. Sadly, Jade’s health declined too rapidly for her to actually grant this last interview, which makes the fictionalised version all the more poignant.
Writer S. Henri said “Jade was such an inspiration to so many people.”
“Pigsould Morgellon Presents Jade Goody’s Final Interview” is that film, which was originally released exclusively on the internet in January 2010. Following that very successful run, Mr. Henri and SLAP-TV has decided to re-release the film to coincide with the final UK series of Big Brother and the UK launch of Apple’s new iPad, SLAP-TV is pleased to announce that our hit film, “Pigsould Morgellon Presents Jade Goody’s Final Interview” will be available to download for the iPad for free.
To download your free copy, please visit FREE IPAD JADE GOODY FILM and follow the simple download instructions. Then import to to iTunes by going to FILE–>ADD TO LIBRARY then navigate to the downloaded file. From there just sync your iPad and the film is ready to screen.
The film was produced at the well-known Westminster Live Studios in central London, written produced and directed by S. Henri with a professional cast and crew.
Robert Hands takes on the role of television personality “Pigsould Morgellon” with actress Syreeta Kumar playing reality TV star, Jade Goody.
The film is smart, dramatic, and unpredictable as it skews the world of celebrity obsession with a broadsheet sensibility.

Report: Initial iPad demand greater than iPhone’s

by Dave Caolo (RSS feed) on Feb 23rd 2010 at 3:00PM

It’s hard to forget the near mania that preceded the iPhone’s US launch. new Yorkers began lining up to buy one four days in advance. David Pogue wrote a song about it. things got out of hand. now, according to RBC Capital Markets’ Mike Abramsky, iPad demand is even higher.

RBC recently conducted a survey of 3,200 people and found that 13% are likely to buy the US$499 iPad. Initial interest in the iPhone was at 9% prior to launch in 2007. Perceived value for the cost is probably the deciding factor. Remember, the original iPhone was also $499. The iPad has obvious differences like size, resolution, a huge existing library of 3rd party apps and 16GB of memory (the $499 iPhone had only 4GB of storage). The iPad is also contract-free, something the iPhone can’t (officially) do in the US.

What’s most interesting is the number of people who said that the iPad is affecting other purchasing decisions. a full 25 percent of respondents said that they are delaying other Apple purchases as a result. Nine percent have put off buying a MacBook, and 10 percent have put off an iPhone. on a personal note, my parents just put off buying a MacBook until they get some hands-on time with an iPad at their local Apple Store.

iPad pre-orders could begin as early as this week, but Apple doesn’t release those numbers. However, this report and the fact that some Norweigan retailers had to halt pre-orders because of the overwhelming demand bodes well for initial iPad sales.

Duo Launch Fund for iPad Applications

A pair of Internet entrepreneurs have started a fund to invest in applications developed for Apple‘s new iPad.

VentureBeat reported that Kevin Wendle, a veteran of CNET and E! Online has teamed up with Daniel Klaus, the co-founder of MusicNation and Original Signal, to start the AppFund, which will invest $5,000 to $500,000 in each application.

How much each plan receives will depend “on the complexity of each application and its potential to tap into the mobile end user market, the duo said in a statement.

The AppFund, based in New York, will accept applications from all over the globe.

iPad popular on Twitter, biggest complaint is no Flash

by Chris Rawson (RSS feed) on Feb 2nd 2010 at 5:00PM

Attensity Group has published a study showing people’s attitudes toward the iPad. their methodology for the study is fairly interesting: They analyzed 20,000 tweets from Twitter two hours before the iPad announcement, another 20,000 two hours after, and another 15,000 four days later. two bits of data from Attensity’s study are particularly intriguing — four days after the iPad’s introduction, a full 69% of analyzed tweets expressed positive sentiments toward the iPad, with only 27% having negative feelings toward the device. So given a few days’ space, the iPad proves pretty popular.

Out of the 27% of the twitterverse that disliked or even hated the iPad, what was their biggest complaint? Unsurprisingly, 41% of iPad haters cited its lack of Flash support as their number one gripe.

Of course, Twitter is a self-selecting group as well (I’ve seen spambots, geeks, and celebrities over there — in roughly that order), so Attensity Group’s analysis is probably not indicative of general public perception of the iPad. while the news media and the online tech community has been on fire all week about the “war” between Apple and Adobe over Flash, I’m going to go out on a limb and say that for average users, the iPad’s lack of Flash support isn’t going to deter people from purchasing one any more than it did for the iPhone or iPod touch. all the fervor over the Flash issue will eventually die away, but not because Apple’s going to cave — not if Steve Jobs has anything to say about it (and he does).

What do you think about Flash on the iPad? Give us your opinion in a poll by clicking on the “Read More” link below.

[Via Macsimum News]

There’s been some extremely lively debate all over the internet on this issue, including here at TUAW. So far my general perception of things is there’s been a roughly 50/50 split on Flash, with half of commenters being happy there’s no Flash on the iPad or just not caring, and the other half being disappointed, annoyed, or outright angry about it. So let’s have a (rather unscientific) poll of our own and see what you really think about Flash on the iPad.

The IPad Is Ready for Prime Time… on TV, at Least

Perhaps if you were the famous host of a fake TV news show, you too could play with an iPad. Because during Sunday night’s Grammy awards, Stephen Colbert pulled one out his pocket–literally–while presenting the award for “Song of the Year.”

Lest you think Mr. Colbert was simply wielding a prop, the device’s screen can clearly be seen to reorient itself in the video, as the accelerometer tries to figure out just which way is up.

Even though the iPad isn’t yet available for folks like you and me, it seems apparent that Apple’s latest creation is more than ready for its close-up. Besides its Grammy appearance, the iPad will also allegedly appear in the hands of the perpetually-going-rogue Jack Bauer, hero of TV’s 24. Rodney Charters, the show’s Director of Photography, tweeted the following semi-grammatical updates soon after the iPad’s launch:

Hmmmm looks like we may get an iSlate into Jacks hands for Ep 20 getting giddy with excitement

Got a bit too excited probably more likely Episode 22 but Apple provided fingers crossed

As long as Chloe can open a socket to it, one expects that the iPad will do nothing less than save the world.

8 Things That Suck About the iPad

A lot of people at Gizmodo are psyched about the iPad. not me! my god, am I underwhelmed by it. it has some absolutely backbreaking failures that will make buying one the last thing I would want to do. Updated

Big, Ugly Bezel
Have you seen the bezel on this thing?! It’s huge! I know you don’t want to accidentally input a command when your thumb is holding it, but come on.

No Multitasking
This is a backbreaker. If this is supposed to be a replacement for netbooks, how can it possibly not have multitasking? are you saying I can’t listen to Pandora while writing a document? I can’t have my Twitter app open at the same time as my browser? I can’t have AIM open at the same time as my email? are you kidding me? This alone guarantees that I will not buy this product.

No Cameras
No front facing camera is one thing. but no back facing camera either? Why the hell not? I can’t imagine what the downside was for including at least one camera. Could this thing not handle video iChat?

Touch Keyboard
So much for Apple revolutionizing tablet inputs; this is the same big, ugly touchscreen keyboard we’ve seen on other tablets, and unless you’re lying on the couch with your knees propping it up, it’ll be awkward to use.

No HDMI Out
Want to watch those nice HD videos you downloaded from iTunes on your TV? too damned bad! If you were truly loyal, you’d just buy an AppleTV already.

The name iPad
Get ready for Maxi pad jokes, and lots of ‘em!

No Flash
No Flash is annoying but not a dealbreaker on the iPhone and iPod Touch. on something that’s supposed to be closer to a netbook or laptop? it will leave huge, gaping holes in websites. I hope you don’t care about streaming video! God knows not many casual internet users do. Oh wait, nevermind, they all do.

Adapters, Adapters, Adapters
So much for those smooth lines. If you want to plug anything into this, such as a digital camera, you need all sorts of ugly adapters. You need an adapter for USB for god’s sake.

Update: Why stop at 8? here are more things we are discovering that suck about the iPad.

It’s not Widescreen
Widescreen movies look lousy on this thing thanks to its 4:3 screen, according to Blam, who checked out some of Star Trek on one. It’s like owning a 4:3 TV all over again!

Doesn’t Support T-Mobile 3G
Sure, it’s “unlocked.” but it won’t work on T-Mobile, and it uses microSIMs that literally no one else uses.

A Closed App Ecosystem
The iPad only runs apps from the App Store. the same App Store that is notorious for banning apps for no real reason, such as Google Voice. sure, netbooks might not have touchscreens, but you can install whatever software you’d like on them. want to run a different browser on your iPad? too bad!

Apple iPad tech specs: rumor vs. reality scorecard

Remember that history of Apple tablet rumors we concocted for you just the other day? well, we’re here to take score now, folks. As you can see from the handy (and magical) chart below, Taiwan Economic News came pretty close to nailing the iPad‘s specs back September: built-in HSDPA, custom P.a. Semi system on a chip (with the fancy new name Apple A4), 9.6-inch size, February unveiling, and hey — they were pretty close on that $799 – $999 pricing too. and while iLounge was wrong about some things, they certainly hit this one out of the park: “It’s a big iPhone, but it’s not a big iPhone.” We’re going to let you dig into the chart here for yourselves to see who got what right — and who was terribly, terribly wrong.

Here are just a few of the no-shows today, however — no camera, no multitasking, no phone, no Verizon, no iPhone OS 4.0, and no Flash anywhere to be seen. There were also no MacBook Pro spec bumps in sight, and no iLife to be found. well, let’s just try to be happy with what we did get, okay? the chart is after the break.
