Fashion Wars (Super Tuesday Edition): Meg Whitman Vs. Carly Fiorina

Ruthie Friedlander | 5:27 pm, June 8th, 2010

If only our political decisions were based on which candidate dressed the best. with the exception of Sarah Palin’s sartorial decisions, which frequently leave us scratching our heads, most of the time, politicians’ outfits are a collection of huge yawns. and we don’t even want to get started on their hair styles, or rather, their lack of hair styles.

Later today, former eBay CEO Meg Whitman (left) and former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina (right) will both be running in highly contested California primaries. and while our friends at Mediaite can bring you more details on politics of it all, we’d rather focus on their clothes.

It’s time for Fashion Wars: the Super Tuesday Edition! Meg Whitman Vs. Carly Fiorina.

Hollywood Reacts To The 'Lost' Series Finale In Today's Tweet …

After six fascinating and frustrating seasons, the cult-like drama “Lost” has come to an end. Last night’s series finale left hardcore fans debating on whether it went out with a bang or a whimper (OK, lots of whimpers. Who wasn’t crying at some point?). While some loved the afterlife/spirituality themes, others were begging for more concrete answers about the island. But, before opinions hit Twitter full force (and did they ever!), it was disbelief that it was ending in the first place, including “Lost” star Ian Somerhalder who posted last night. “Wow, its over”. elsewhere, Lauren Conrad described the conclusion of the series via her twitter as being “Like X-mas. you can’t wait for it to finally be here, but u don’t want it to be over!”

While some stars like Jessica Simpson were happy with Ocean flight 815′s final send-off (she told fans she thought it was a, “Powerful ending of Lost. Wow. Incredibly beautiful! Cried so many times”), others like “The Biggest Loser” trainer Jillian Michaels were plain irked, posting, “This is total BULL****!!! there are STILL no answers!!”

Check out the rest of Hollywood’s reaction to the end of “Lost” and let us know what you thought of the finale, too! Follow us @hollywoodcrush to get even more celebrity and pop culture news around the clock!

TD Ameritrade Gets Social, Product Names Get Long; AMTD, SCHW …

| 29 April 2010

TD Ameritrade (AMTD) announced today that they have finally integrated the MyTrade platform into their thinkorswim platform. For those of you not up on the chronology here, let us entertain you. Thinkorswim bought MyTrade in February 2008. TD Ameritrade bought thinkorswim in January 2009. and now today, TD Ameritrade says it has integrated MyTrade into their platform.

MyTrade bills itself as a “social networking content platform for investors.” so naturally, TD Ameritrade is spinning this into a big social media buzz. “Active traders today demand… access to social media options that are easy-to-use and understand,” said Tom Sosnoff, senior vice president of TD AMERITRADE’s Trader Group. “MyTrade with thinkShare offers our clients the ability to communicate easily between themselves, sharing their individual opinions, strategies and even real-time trades.”

Our sense is there’s really nothing new in this announcement. we find it hard to believe that it took them over a year just to hook up TD Ameritrade traders with a link over to MyTrade.

The real question is whether MyTrade, once an innovative idea, has become obsolete. the service allows investors to connect all of their social networking platforms like Twitter and Facebook. but there are other services that do that. and ultimately, connecting outside of MyTrade with services like StockTwits is likely to give active traders a broader net.

Don’t get us wrong, it’s not a bad product. It’s just that a lot has changed since its original launch and the service is starting to feel a little redundant. Why not just hook up a Twitter feed directly into the thinkorswim application? There you’ll be able to connect comments and ideas with your regualr dashboard of charts and analytics. Why add a layer of complexity?

Schwab (SCHW) went through a similar build out and then subsequent tear down in its active traders services. they acquired CyberTrader out of Austin, Texas but subsequently shut down the service and merged everyone into StreetSmart Pro. the transition sent customers reeling.

But there’s one other thing we can’t help but note out of all this linking, connecting, webbing and fusing: it’s creating some really long product names. Try this one on for size: MyTrade with thinkShare through thinkorswim from TD AMERITRADE. That’s no joke!

That’s our take. but to be honest we’re not active users of the service. If you are, leave us a comment and let us know what you think.

At the Google I/O conference in may, the company previewed the new Android 2.0, Google’s mobile operating system. Major highlights include the new Android search, text-to-speech compatibility and gesture support. however, this preview has now been made available to developers through Google’s code depository. While still in testing phases and very unstable, developers can take the release for a test drive or even take key 2.0 elements and place them into the stable Android 1.5 build.

Some of the main features in Android 2.0 are:

Android Search: The search engine will allow you to search both your phone and the web through the same browser.

Text-To-Speech: if you have a Google Voice account, you can pretty soon link it to your Android phone as well.

Multi-touch Support: Like Apple’s smart phones, the Android system now allows for users to perform actions by touching the screen in multiple places at the same time, for instance, to reduce the size of an image. this functionality was left out of Android 1.0 since Google was worried about legal issues with Apple, who has pioneered this feature.

Gesture Support: Instead of having to search through the entire contact list to get to the “S” names on your phone, all you will now need to do is write the letter “S” on the screen.

With all these new features still only available in a developer’s release, it might be a smart idea for regular users to wait till the Android 2.0 is released in a slightly more stable form before installing it on their phone.

Dead or Alive Updates: Ronnie James Dio died at 7.45 am on 16th May

by websitekraft
May 16th, 2010

Illness and death; Ronnie James Dio dies: Ronnie James Dio died on 16th may 2010. Ronnie James Dio dies at 7.45 am CST. Ronnie James Dio (born Ronald James Padavona; July 10, 1942 – may 16, 2010) was an American heavy metal vocalist and songwriter. he performed with Testament of Apollo, Elf, Rainbow, Black Sabbath, Heaven & Hell, and his own band Dio. Other musical projects include the collective fundraiser Hear ‘n Aid.

On 4 may 2010, Heaven and Hell announced they were cancelling all summer dates as a result of Dio’s ill health.
Dio died at 7.45am (CST) on may 16, 2010.
Wendy Dio said on Ronnie’s official site:
“Today my heart is broken, Ronnie passed away at 7:45am 16th may. Many, many friends and family were able to say their private good-byes before he peacefully passed away. Ronnie knew how much he was loved by all.

We so appreciate the love and support that you have all given us. please give us a few days of privacy to deal with this terrible loss. please know he loved you all and his music will live on forever.”

His passing was met with confusion amongst fans, with Facebook and Twitter users spreading rumours of his death as early as the 15th of may 2010, partly due to prior death rumours about Dio, caused by metalinsider.net, and spread by members of Anonymous.

When Blabbermouth.net contacted Wendy Dio at 2:35 p.m. EDT on Sunday, may 16, she said the following;

“I am at the hospital and Ronnie has NOT passed away!!!! he is not doing good, but he is not dead. “I will let you know if anything changes. “Thank you for your concern.”
However, Blabbermouth.net, along with many other websites who had posted to the contrary, retracted prior statements and confirmed Dio’s death.
